This course equips employees with knowledge about Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and what they mean for the service user/service provider.

- The definition of mental capacity and an overview of the Mental Capacity Act 2005
- Relevant statutory standards and codes of practice for your role
- Understanding your role and how to assess capacity
- Defines what Deprivation of Liberty is: - liberty, restrictions, deprivation & detention, the Deprivation of the Liberty application process
- The types of authorisation and assessments involved in the decision-making process (e.g. Assessors, IMCA’s, Attorney’s, ‘living wills’ and the Court of Protection)
- Know how to provide individuals with information to enable them to have choice about the way they are supported
