The purpose of the Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health Care is to meet the needs of individuals who support people with mental health problems but who are not mental health professionals. Learners are likely to be in employment but as it is a knowledge based qualification this is not essential. The qualification develops learners knowledge of the legal, policy and service framework in mental health; the principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young peoples settings; mental well-being and health promotion, problems and interventions; care and support planning and risk management in mental health.
There are no specific entry requirements however learners should have a minimum of level two in literacy and numeracy or equivalent. The qualification is suitable for learners of 18 years of age and above.
